Evan Pittman was recognized Friday, April 29, during the City of Phoenix 2016 Outstanding Young Man and Woman of the Year luncheon, held at the Phoenix Country Club.  Evan was among 19 outstanding high school students recognized from all eight districts of America’s fifth largest city.  The luncheon and awards ceremony was presided over by Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton.

“I felt special just being a part of this very select group,” Evan said during the luncheon.  “All of these students are doing incredible things, and are going to be really successful, so being with them is quite an honor.”  Evan was joined at the luncheon by his private violin teacher, Dr. Sarah Off, who recommended him for the honor.

Evan was recognized for his extensive record of community service, including his Musical Ministry program and the Lift for Heroes effort that he began in 2015 to benefit combat-wounded veterans.

The City of Phoenix Outstanding Young Man and Young Woman competition is sponsored by the Phoenix Rotary, Soroptimist International of Phoenix and the City of Phoenix.  This year was the 30th anniversary of the competition, which consists of a recommendation and application process, screening and panel interviews.  Each of the winners received a scholarship check for $500, as well as a certificate and book.
