On Tuesday, April 12, “The Arcadia News” local newspaper honored strings teacher Maurine Fleming as a “Teacher We Love” at the recommendation of her student Evan Pittman.
Evan submitted a recommendation online for Fleming to the Arcadia News in December 2015, highlighting Fleming’s contribution to her classroom.
“She is a great teacher,” Pittman wrote. “She really cares about students and encourages us to be at our best, and perhaps most importantly, she sees the good in people and is encouraging to all her students – particularly those who struggle with the material.”
On April 12, the editor and a writer from Arcadia News appeared in Fleming’s strings class with a gift bag that included dinner at Postino’s, a local Italian eatery, and a spa day certificate from a local spa.
Phoenix Country Day School officials were there to see the honors bestowed.
“I’m glad I nominated her,” Evan said afterwards. “She is a great teacher who makes the kids in her class feel special. As a transfer student here, I couldn’t have made it through my first year here without her!”
